Modal Argon8 with MPE from iPhone app KB-1
Переглядів 9883 роки тому
All sound is coming live from one patch on the Modal Argon 8, which has MPE mode enabled. In this mode, the Argon 8 keyboard is still live and can be played normally. I also turn on keyboard sustain at one point. MPE midi data from KB-1 on the iPhone is added to this via the DIN socket on the back of the synth. To get midi from the iPhone to the Argon 8 I'm using an iConnectMIDI4 , which has DI...

One of those videos where, if I don't 'finish' and post now I'll never go back to it. Kind of messing around, though the maths of the drum loops took a bit of thought. Not the usual 4/4 :)
Five Minutes Later

I got frustrated trying to find visuals to go with tracks that I make, so I gave myself some time to learn a bit about Blender, the Open Source 3D animation package, and see what might happen. This is my first go at making something. The soundtrack was recorded a few years earlier for a the Electronic Oddities Podcast (Episode 44, "Cadavre Exquis") on MixCloud, though when I had the idea for th...

This was a five minute planned improv using the Modal 002 in multi-timbral mode. Five parts with two or three voices each, played either from the keyboard or from my Dual Arp sequencer (Pure Data). I captured the 12 channel digital output and loaded it into Reaper, where I began mixing and adding FX. I set out to see what happens if I treat individual voices with different reverb and EQ, even w...

A more detailed demo of the sequencer thingy I've been building in Pure Data. The sounds come from the Modal 002.

More from my Pure Data sequencer without a name. Lots of features added now, not to mention eight tracks and independent trig patterns. It's a bit of a monster and I get to very interesting places very quickly using it, but I really want to make it more playable. Here five sequence tracks are driving four sounds on the 002 in a multi-timbral setup. All FX are from the 002, as well. The mix is t...

I used Pure Data to set up a kind of two handed sequencer where notes from each 'hand' play in turn. The Modal 002 plays two patches, one sequenced and one live and with lashings delay from the its new digital FX board. Patterns for each track of the Pure Data patch are entered from the keyboard. I use the BitStream midi box to control routing in Pure Data. The cross-fader switches between the ...

Very slow and a bit old-school. Two patches running in a performance, both using the 002's Animator, which is a kind of parameter sequencer which runs individually for each voice. On both patches here it's controlling individual oscillator levels, plus LFO rates and amounts. The thing down by my left hand is a Launch Control and I'm using the pads to trigger the second patch, which is making al...

Looping sequences in the 002, all different lengths so they phase with each other. Two short (high, sustained sound); one medium (bass) and one very long (discordant brassy strings) where I mess with the loop length. My left hand is working the nanoKontrol mapped to filter and volume on the 002 parts. Percussion and FX from MachineDrum, LXP-15 and VoiceWorks.

This is an oldie for me. I came up with these ideas back in the mid eighties, but I just wanted to get them back in my head ... well, they've never really left my head but it's a long time since my hands played them (and doesn't it show). All sounds from my Modal 002; reverb and delay are an LXP 15II; and sequencing is from Genome on iPad hooked up to an iConnectMidi4 . (Glad my iPad 2 is still...

I've had my 002 nearly three years now. It still feels very fresh :) For those who know don't this synth, this is an eight-part multi-timbral performance. (The synth is twelve voice and can be twelve-part multi-timbral.) Six of the parts are running their own sequences, which are up to 32 steps of up to one whole-note length. The two remaining parts are mapped across the keyboard. I'm using the...

I don't know, to be honest. This video has been up for a long time and I guess UA-cam have re-encoded it for some reason, or maybe it wasn't properly encoded in the first place. One day I'll get round to putting it up again and maybe this time it'll work properly.
